ORDINANCE NO. 2023-05C

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REENACT SECTIONS 2-1006

BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Jeanerette, in regular session assembled,

That the Code of Ordinance of the City of Jeanerette, Sections SECTION 2-1006 are hereby AMENDED and REENACTED to read as follows, to wit:

WHEREAS, the members of the board of Alderman are currently considered a part time position.

WHEREAS, the City of Jeanerette recognizes that the salary has not been adjusted since 1991.

BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED, by the Board of Aldermen, City of Jeanerette, State of Louisiana, that the ordinance now read

Section 2-1006 Compensation

(a)The members of the board of aldermen shall be considered part-time employees of the city.
(b)The salary of each member of the board of aldermen shall be five hundred dollars ($500.00) per month beginning July 1, 2023.

Furthermore item (c) shall be removed. The members of the board of Alderman are considered part-time and therefore do not qualify for retirement or hospitalization.

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that all ordinances and resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

This Ordinance shall take effect on July 1, 2023.

This Ordinance was introduced on the 8th day of May 2023, by Alderman Clark notice of public hearing having been posted on May 10th 2023, said public hearing having been held on June 12, 2023, the title having been read and the ordinance considered, on motion of Alderman Clark, whom moved its adoption, seconded by Alderman Duplechain, and upon roll call was adopted by its title, section by section, and as a whole, by the following yea and nay vote:

Yeas: Alderman Clark, Alderwoman Moore, Alderman Duplechain,
Nay: Alderman Bourgeois, Alderman Ward
Absent: None
Abstain:None
Motion Carried

This Ordinance was thereupon declared adopted by Mayor and was approved and signed by him and attested by the City Clerk and the corporate seal of the City of Jeanerette affixed hereto on this 15th day of June, 2023.
