ORDINANCE NO. 04A OF 2021

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REENACT SECTIONS 6-3005 (A) Composition, membership, and vacancies. Jeanerette Historic Districts

BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Jeanerette, in regular session assembled,

That the Code of Ordinance of the City of Jeanerette, Sections 6-3005 (A) are hereby AMENDED and REENACTED to read as follows, to wit:

WHEREAS, the current requirements for membership in the Jeanerette Historic Commission Districts must be revised to enable the city to properly enable the commission to have a representative body.

BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED, by the Board of Aldermen, City of Jeanerette, State of Louisiana, that the ordinance now read

(a) The commission shall be composed of nine (9) members who shall be persons of the full age of majority and who shall serve without compensation. Commission members shall, as far as possible, have demonstrated knowledge of or interest, competence, or expertise in historic preservation. To the extent available, the mayor shall appoint professional members from the primary historic preservation-related disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, or archaeology or from secondary historic preservation-related disciplines such as urban planning, American Studies, American Civilization, Cultural Geography, Cultural Anthropology, Interior Design, Law, and related fields. In conformity with the "Louisiana Guidelines for the Certified Local Government Program", the city shall document a "good faith effort" to locate professionals to serve on the commission before appointing lay members. The commission shall also seek the advice, as needed, of professionals not serving on the commission.

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that all ordinances and resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force immediately after its adoption.

This Ordinance was introduced on the 12th day of April 2021 by Alderman Lancon and second by Alderman Clark notice of public hearing having been posted on April 19rd 2021, said public hearing having been held on May 10th, 2021, the title having been read and the ordinance considered, on motion of _____________whom moved its adoption, seconded by ______________, and upon roll call was adopted by its title, section by section, and as a whole, by the following yea and nay vote:

This Ordinance was thereupon declared adopted by Mayor and was approved and signed by him and attested by the City Clerk and the corporate seal of the City of Jeanerette affixed hereto on this
