Minutes from the Tuesday Aug 5, 2025 City of Jeanerette Public Works and Safety Committee Meeting Present- Mayor Carol Bourgois Jr, City Clerk Susan Colden, Alderman Butch Bourgeois, Public Works director Howard White, LaWanda Robertson, Elizabeth Moore, Police Chief Terrance Moore. Fire Chief Sherry Landry, Brandon Domingue, Scott Landry and Noah Provost all from Statewide. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor and he led the prayer There was no public comment. The Mayor announced that Fire Chief Landry was recently recognized by Acadian Ambulance for heroic actions that saved a man’s life after cardiac arrest. Fire Chief Landry reported that for the month of July they had 65 calls 53 in town and 12 auto aid. The water plant operators are currently painting hydrants, on 6/10 members attended a FETA forcible entry class using a prop, hosted by IPFD1. Ronald Poledore and Mitch Dubois Jr. graduated from the fire academy 6/25. On 6/27 & 6/28 there were 36 fire personnel from multiple departments compete the annual VFIS driver training course. On July 1, they completed the annual hose and ladder testing. They assisted with 2 major fires one was in St. Mary Parish, at St. John Baptist Church and the other was in Loreauville for a fatal residential fire. The department has 6 members in an EMR class, also CPR recerts will be done. Next, Police Chief Terrance Moore reported for the month of July 124 cases, 26 arrests, 22 traffic citations, 12 arrests in conjunction with the traffic citations. 1 burglary with assault of a resident – the subject was arrested. There are 2 outstanding sexual assault cases, both suspects have been identified and one has been arrested and the other is pending arrest. The Chief attended a conference in the beginning of July. The chief was able to learn about the new laws going into effect Aug 1. The DWI cases will no longer be held in City Court but will be a jury trial in district court, there is a move to change this. He also noted that bystanders to parades can now carry firearms, the parade participants cannot be armed. The Chief also addressed the Ordinances for adoption at the next council meeting regarding open container (regarding the receptacles) and the other for parade regulations (regarding the route). They will be attending firearm training at St. Mary Parish range. Some officers will be attending training in September for homicide investigations as required by state law. They also completed 16 hours of sexual assault training, for investigating sexual assault cases. Elizabeth Moore reported for Public Works they called in 2 dotties and marked 14 lines. They did bulk waste pickup by the tracks on Main St & MLK. They cut grass in 12 locations and cut 5 ditches with the side boom; they responded to 7 sewer backups. They cleared 2 trees that fell in the road, fixed a leak in a water meter and repaired 2 water leaks. Brandon from Statewide reported the water test results look good. Chief Landry noted that there is hydrant testing coming up August 11, and maybe after that they can schedule a city wide flush. The valve at the water plant will hopefully be changed this week. Brandon said after he talks to Barry then he can let everyone know. On the sewer side they are still liking into prices for the electrical for the aerator, and for the pump at south Pellerin. With no other business to consider the meeting was adjourned.
