The following resolution was offered by Alderman Duplechain seconded by Alderwoman Clay and duly resolved:

RESOLUTION 5 of 2025

A RESOLUTION GRANTING THE MAYOR THE AUTHORITY TO SIGN A JUVENILE & YOUTHFUL HOUSING AGREEMENT


WHEREAS, the City of Jeanerette, as well as surrounding areas, has experienced a rise in crime committed by juveniles, and

WHEREAS, during the pre-trial phase if the juvenile is considered a danger to the community; the City of Jeanerette is responsible for placing the offender in a qualified facility until they are remaned to the State, and

WHEREAS, the; City is aware that there is only a limited number of qualified facilities to house juvenile offenders available and is costly, and

WHEREAS, the Jackson Parsh Sheriff Office is offering to lower the per diem for the daily rate per Juvenile bed if the City of Jeanerette enters into a two (2) year agreement at a cost of $105.00 per day if the bed is unoccupied and $185.00 if the bed becomes occupied.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Jeanerette that the Mayor is hereby authorized to sign this agreement.

THEREUPON, the above resolution was duly adopted.
