Minutes from the Monday April 8, 2025 City of Jeanerette Public Works and Safety Committee Meeting Present- Mayor Carol Bourgois Jr, Public Works director Howard White, LaWanda Robertson, Fire Chief Sherry Landry, Lisa Wiles Police Administrator, City Clerk Susan Colden, Finance Director Christie Conner, Anderson Clay, Scott Landry, Brandon Domingue and Barry Segura of Statewide. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor and he led the prayer. There was no public comment. Fire Chief Landry reported for the Month of March they had 79 calls. Thirty-one were medical, with 2 deaths. Thirty calls were cancelled, 10 calls were for alarm investigation and there was 1 structure fire, Kent Street and 1 outside storage fire on Canal St and one public assistance call. There were 9 auto aid calls with 1 medical, 1 auto accident, 2 structure fires, 1 grass fire and 1 controlled burn. March 24 & 25 the members attended a FETA class hosted by District 11 and was a classroom and hands on class. March 18 Jeanerette fire dept hosted a critical incident stress management meeting for both fire and police personnel. The department also performed monthly fire drills at the schools. Lisa Wiles reported that the police department responded to 159 calls during the month. Of that 21 were citations, for window tint, no insurance, speeding and driving under suspension. Eleven summonses were given for disturbing the peace by fighting, criminal trespassing and simple battery. There are 14 felony cases, 13 drug/and gun and 1 domestic,1 juvenile case and one inmate housed for the month. The attended a training on evidence management with the fire department also attending. Chief Landry also reminded everyone that there is a city-wide cleanup this Saturday for Love the Boot event, meet at 8 am on MLK and Monnot. The Mayor also asked for a composite list of all burned out structures. LaWanda Robertson reported that public works called in 3 dotties and marked 24 during the month of March. They cleared 9 drains, repaired 6 driveways, cut grass in 26 locations and cleared 24 ditches. The cleared 2 road kills, responded to 6 sewer backups and 5 water leaks. Howard Whited commented on the project by Delta Utility that is the former Centerpoint. They are replacing service lines since they are boring there will be minimal effect on traffic, but we will try to let folks know where they will be working. Anderson spoke for Statewide and said that they have been supplying the contractor with bulk water for the line replacement project. For the water operations, everything is working well at the water plant. They are flushing hydrants around the city and have not had complaints of brown water and the city-wide flushing was successful. The Mayor asked about mowing around the hydrants. Anderson then mentioned the inspection by the department of health which identified screen that needed replacing on the ground storage tanks. For the sewer operations they were able to get 3 aerators online, also trying to get all of the lift stations going with 2 pumps, and getting the control panels fixed. There was a discussion of upcoming budget meeting for department heads. With no other business to consider the meeting was adjourned.
