Minutes from the Monday March 3, 2025 City of Jeanerette Public Works and Safety Committee Meeting Present- Alderman Bourgeois, Public Works director Howard White, Alderwoman Clay, Alderwoman Moore, Elizabeth Moore and LaWanda Robertson with Public Works, Fire Chief Sherry Landry, Lisa Wiles Police Administrator, City Clerk Susan Colden. The meeting was called to order There was no public comment. Fire Chief Sherry Landry reported in the month of February there were 64 calls in the City and 9 auto aid. There were 29 medical with 15 cancelled, 14 alarm investigation, 1 auto accident, 1 gas leak, 1 grass fire, 2 structure fires and 1 explosive device. Next Lisa Wiles reported for the Police Department, in the month the department issues 29 citations, 24 summons, handled 8 district cases, processed 21 juvenile complaints and made 13 arrests there is a homicide that is being investigated where there is currently 3 arrested and 1 more to be picked up. Lisa then said the biggest issue right now is housing, there are very few places to take juveniles even if they are 17. Alderman Bourgeois expressed frustration with Sheriff Romero that he is not doing more, he is also frustrated with parents. Shanee Higdon is resigning March 4. Alderman Bourgeois asked how many officers we have and Lisa said 3. She also added that they do have applications, she also stated that Tasheka is not post certified and Alderman Bourgeois asked when that training will occur and Lisa replied that she still has time. She also commented on the expectations and disciple changes at the department that carries expectations of working, patrolling and not sitting in the office. Elizabeth Moore reported that for the month of February the department prepared for the Mardi Gras parade and put equipment away after the rain cancelled event. She then added they repaired asphalt on the shoulder of the road on Pellerin between Virginia and Georgia. They marked 23 dotties cleared drainage on Druilhet, repaired 6 water leaks, cut grass in ditch Pellerin to MLK and Morris Charles-Copp and Fire Station 2501-MLK. Cut grass in 9 locations picked up tires and rims – will call DEQ for special permit to collect and Colt to pickup. With no other business to consider the meeting was adjourned.
