Postby City Clerk » Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:19 am

Minutes from the Monday November 4, 2024 Personnel and Policy Committee Meeting Present –Alderwoman Christia Simmons, Alderwoman Mariah Clay and City Clerk Susan Colden, Alderwoman Moore also came. Chief Vallot was coming from New Iberia and had not arrived yet. Alderwoman Simmons called the meeting to order and directed the group to review the City of Jeanerette Ordinances from Section 1-2013 to 2023 regarding suspension or revocation of liquor license. Ms. Simmons also included ordinances from New Iberia and Patterson for comparison. Fire Chief Sherry Landry joined the meeting and there was a discussion of the large crowds at The Denn the past weekend and the fight at Ballers. Chief Landry also said that when the permits are submitted the City needs the inspection and not the review report. Chief Landry passed out that report that showed the capacity for The Denn at 146 which the Fire Marshal will enforce. Coy Duplantis and Stacey Bienvenu with Brown and Brown arrived early. Since Alderwoman Simmons wanted Chief Vallot to be present to address items in the ordinances she suggested the representative for Brown and Brown go early, hence break away to the finance meeting agenda and the group will return to the policy agenda after Chief Vallot joins the meeting. The committee returned to the review of section 10-2023 Enforcement; duty of chief of police. It states that the owner of the bar to notify the police of any disturbance on or about the premises. The Chief is required to notify the city clerk. Depending on the incident, a hearing may be called and the holder of the permit shall appear to the board to discuss the incident. After the hearing the board may suspend or revoke the permit. The holder of the permit would have the option to appeal the decision in district court. There was a discussion regarding the various clubs and any issues. With no other business to discuss the meeting was adjourned.
