Minutes from the Monday February 5, 2024 City of Jeanerette Finance Committee Meeting
Present – Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr., Alderwoman Tia Simmons, Alderwoman Charlene Moore, City Clerk Susan Colden. The Mayor briefed them on the possible phase 2 road projects. Alderwoman Simmons inquired about the P & L, Ms. Colden said that the November, December and January bank reconciliations had not been completed so she was unable to run a P & L. Ms. Colden talked to the accountants and they were told November had been completed. They will now start finishing the bank recs. Alderwoman Simmons stated for the record that we had only gotten a September and October P & L and we are now trying to amend a budget with an old report. Because there is not an updated P & L Alderwoman Simmons stated that she is unable to review budget vs actual account activity. Alderwoman Simmons then reviewed the proposed Amended budget with comparisons. The original budget had total revenue of $1,975,475.00 and the amended budget is at $1,984,050 so income is constant, the expenses is mainly affected by general insurance, group health, and auto insurance so expenses went up about 8%. There was discussion about Police and Fire Protection, and General Fund and the proper coding of expenses. Then she highlighted the Sales Tax funds. There also was discussion in the Street Ad Valorem account were the purchase of a hot mix street repair machine and a truck to tow it was added for $150,000. Next the Drainage and Mosquito fund 39 account and the related Lamp account were reviewed and discussion included equipment, materials, and personnel. Then she reviewed fund 55 and 57 for the Capital Outlay projects. Next is Fire and Police Protection, and Alderwoman Simmons increased the budget for the vehicle purchase in the Fire Protection account. Utility fund is accurate in posting and changes are mainly in insurance areas. Ms. Susan noted regarding the cash flow analysis that it was not necessary to make the January transfer. The committee is presenting the budget to the council in February 2024. With no other business to report the meeting was adjourned.
