MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING-BOARD OF ALDERMEN Tuesday January 30th, 2024
Proceedings of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Jeanerette, State of Louisiana, at their Special meeting held Wednesday January 30th, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
Those present were: Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr., Alderwoman Mariah Clay, Alderwoman Charlene Moore. Alderman Garland Bourgeois Alderwoman Christia Simmons, Alderman Ray Duplechain and Attorney Pecantte.
Mayor Bourgeois Jr. led the prayer and Alderman Bourgeois led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr. determined that a quorum was present.
5. Public Comment on Agenda items- none
6 A. Executive Session
On motion by Alderwoman Simmons second by Alderwoman Clay to leave regular session and enter executive session, on voice vote of all yea, no nay motion carried.
On motion by Alderman Duplechain second by Alderwoman Clay to leave executive session and enter regular session, on voice vote of all yea, no nay motion carried.

7. A. Discussion, and approval concerning agreement between Marshal, Jeanerette Police and City of Jeanerette regarding police protection. On motion by Alderwoman Simmons to approve the Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Jeanerette, the Jeanerette Police and the Jeanerette City Marshal be approved for a period of one month with the following changes, insurance coverage for the Marshal’s office needs to be verified, the statement of the participants needs to be better specified, and the creation of a hiring committee for the police officers consisting of the Police Chief, the Marshal, the Mayor and 2 Aldermen as well as any changes from a legal standpoint that need to be made. The Mayor said that the hiring committee should not be a part of the motion, Motion by Alderman Duplechain to make a substitution motion to remove the creation of a hiring committee for the police officers consisting of the Police Chief, the Marshal, the Mayor and 2 Aldermen, second by Alderwoman Clay.
Yeas: Alderwoman Clay, Alderwoman Moore, Alderman Bourgeois, Alderwoman Simmons, Alderman Duplechain
Nay: None
Absent: None
Abstain: None
Motion Carried.
14. Adjourn –On motion by Alderwoman Simmons and second by Alderman Duplechain to adjourn carried on voice vote of all yea, no nay and no abstain.
