Minutes from the Tuesday July 8, 2025 City of Jeanerette Public Works and Safety Committee Meeting Present- Mayor Carol Bourgois Jr, Public Works director Howard White, LaWanda Robertson, Elizabeth Moore, Chief Terrance Moore, City Clerk Susan Colden, Finance Director Christie Conner. Anderson Clay, Brandon Domingue, Scott Landry and Noah all from Statewide. Fire Chief Sherry Landry was absent. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor and he led the prayer. There was no public comment. The mayor announced that Chief Landry was busy with the person doing the insurance ratings. Chief Moore said there were 146 calls. for service, there were a few shooting incidents and the suspects were identified and arrested. The department is still working on one homicide. The department is down to four vehicles. Officers wrote 45 traffic stops 23 citations, 35 arrests, 20 of the arrests were a felony. Jamar Jackson was hired and should be full time soon, Mr. McCloures Manuel was hired as a part-time officer, and Alaila Payton was hired as a dispatcher. They have responded to quit a few alligator calls, they are active right now. Elizabeth Moore for Public Works reported 5 dotties called in and 17 call for them to mark. They removed the American flags off the poles. Repaired 5 driveways on city side, cut grass in 23 streets, cut grass and removed trash in 12 ditches, cut 4 ditches with side boom tractor. Cleared 6 sewer backups, filled 6 pot holes with cold mix. Changed 1 water meter, Put stop sign on Canal & Church back up. Repaired 4 water leaks. The Mayor reported he met with the criminal section of DEQ, with Chief Moore at the site of the old Teche Plaza. Then, they had a meeting with the civil side of DEQ, these actions are to get the owner to take some action on the trucks and tires that are there. The Mayor is also going to try and get some help to clean up the back of the property. Elizabeth Moore reported that public works has picked up 6 loads of bulk wasted and brought it to the staging area for Waste connections to pickup. Anderson Clay reported for Statewide Electric and said that the water plant is functioning good. Sewer plant is going as well as it can for now and the lift stations well also. They are scheduled to install the 12 inch valve at the water plant this month. No complaints on water, time to promote and educate people on our water quality. With no other business to consider the meeting was adjourned.
